Right to equality

“Right to equality, including equality before law, prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth, and equality of opportunity in matters of employment”

Right to equality is one of the six fundamental rights of every Indian citizen guaranteed under the constitution of India. India became a republic on 26th Jan 1950. Constitution of India came in to force from that particular day. Sixty years have rolled by. There is still discrimination in the name of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth and equality of opportunity in matters of employment. There is discrimination at birth unto death.

A lot of you will agree with me. Is there a place where there is equality? Is there an exception? I would say ‘Yes’. There is one place where every one of us is treated equally. There is just this one place. Place of vote. Each one of us get just one vote no matter how much wealth we possess, what caste we belong to or what religion we follow. Be it a prince or a pauper, there is just this, ‘one man-one vote’.

And that makes democracy very unique, special and loved.
