India – a partner in crime???????

.

I read the ‘Report of the secretary –general’s panel of experts on accountability in Srilanka’ dated 31st March 2011. This UN panel constitutes of Marzuki Darusman (Indonesia), Steven Ratner (US) and Yasmin Sooka (South Africa).

I have given below the list of allegations found credible by the panel on Government of Srilanka and the LTTE.

Potential serious violations committed by the government of Sri Lanka.

(a)Killing civilians through widespread shelling
(b)Shelling of hospitals and other humanitarian objects
(c)Denial of humanitarian assistance
(d)Human rights violations suffered by victims and survivors of conflict
(e)Human rights violation outside conflict zone
.

Potential serious violations committed by LTTE.

(a)Using civilians as human buffer
(b)Killing civilians attempting to flee LTTE control
(c)Using military equipments in the proximity of civilians
(d)Forced recruitment of children
(e)Forced labor
(f)Killing civilians through suicide attacks
.

The whole of Tamil Nadu has been crying and begging, staging protests and writing letters to the Govt of India to try and stop the war. There was no significant move from India. Some here believe that Srilanka had full support from India to carry out this war and that even intelligence and arms supply was provided.

Tens of thousands of Tamil civilians have been killed. There has been serious human rights violation and war crime committed by a nation and India invites the head of that nation to watch cricket. What to say???

After the publication of this report, there were demands from across the globe to try the Srilankan government in the court of international law and looks like they are hopeful that India will bail them out.

All the top channels last week flashed this one liner ‘I am ashamed to be an Indian’ by Rahul Gandhi during the farmers agitation in UP.  Do not know how he would have felt when thousands and thousands of innocent civilians were being killed by the government of Srilanka.  Do not know whether he knew anything about this UN report.

If I have to say something on this issue, what more can I say than to say that ‘I am ashamed to be an Indian’. No media is going to flash this!
